Intellectual Property

Alfredo Rangel graduated from the Universidad Iberoamericana law school and was admitted to the practice of law in 1984, he later obtained a Master’s Degree in Comparative Law in the field of Intellectual Property from George Washington University, and attended in 1997 an intensive course in Industrial Property at the Center for International Studies on Intellectual Property at the Université Robert Shuman, in Strasbourg, France. In 2005 he attended a course and was granted a Specialist Diploma in Intellectual and Industrial Property law by the Universidad Panamericana.

He joined Noriega y Escobedo in 1979, has been at the head of the intellectual property area since 1984 and became a partner in 1987.

He has represented Mexico as a delegate and lecturer at many international venues and participated in numerous congresses relating to intellectual property in Mexico, the United States, Canada, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Russia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Japan, Portugal, Sweden, Germany and Australia.

Alfredo Rangel was the international Vice President of the Mexican group of the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property from 1995 to 2003, and Assistant Coordinator and Coordinator of the Intellectual Property Commission of the Mexican Bar from 2001 to 2007.

He has been invited as guest lecturer by many Mexican and international organizations such as the National Association of Importers and Exporters of the Mexican Republic (ANIERM), the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (IAPIP), the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AMPPI), the Inter-American Association of Industrial Property (ASIPI), the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Institute for International Research, the New York State Bar Association-International Law and Practice Section, the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, the Dominican Association of Industrial Property, the Mexican Bar, the Technology Transfer Unit, the International Trade Association (INTA), the Fondo de Cultura Económica (FCE), the Centro de Estudios de Actualización en Derecho, the Mexican Association of Corporate Lawyers (ANADE), the Mexican Institute of Intellectual property, the Japanese Patent Office, the Mexican Institute of Criminal Science, the UNAM’s Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas, the Mexican Federal Judiciary Council, the Federal Tribunal of Fiscal and Administrative Justice, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), among others.

He is the author numerous papers, articles and book chapters relating to intellectual property published in various domestic and international journals and periodicals and by various publishing houses, such as El Foro, Jurídica, El Economista, The Minessota Bar Association, the Inter-American Association of Industrial Property, the New York State Bar Association, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Clark Boardman Callahan, Sweet & Maxwell – Thompson Reuters; Oceana Publications, Inc. and Thompson West, among others.

He has been professor of intellectual property law at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at various prestigious universities in Mexico and at the Intellectual Property and Competition law Institute (IPIDEC).
